1Rule of Thirds: Most Important Rule
What It Is:
- Divide frame into 9 equal squares (3x3 grid)
- Place important elements on grid lines
- Place eyes on top horizontal line
- Creates balanced, professional composition
How to Use It:
- Turn on grid lines in camera settings
- Position baby off-center
- Align eyes with top third line
- Leave "looking room" in direction baby faces
Why It Works:
- More visually interesting than centered
- Professional-looking instantly
- Draws eye through photo
- Natural balance
- Used by all pro photographers
Examples:
β GOOD - Rule of Thirds:
- Baby's eyes on upper grid line
- Positioned left or right third
- Space in frame where baby looks
- Balanced and professional
β BAD - Centered (Bull's Eye):
- Baby dead center
- Equal space all around
- Static and boring
- Looks like snapshot
Exception:
Very close-up face shots can be centered (fills frame)
