Current Guidelines (2024):
Early introduction (4-6 months) may REDUCE allergy risk!
Top Allergens to Introduce:
1. Peanut - Thinned peanut butter or peanut puffs
2. Egg - Start with well-cooked yolk
3. Dairy - Yogurt or cheese (not cow's milk as drink until 12 months)
4. Tree nuts - Almond butter thinned
5. Wheat - Pasta, bread
6. Soy - Tofu
7. Fish - Well-cooked, deboned
8. Shellfish - If family eats it
9. Sesame - Tahini thinned
How to Introduce:
- β’Start with tiny amount (tip of spoon)
- β’Morning introduction (watch all day)
- β’One allergen at a time
- β’Wait 2-3 days before next allergen
- β’Once tolerated, keep in regular rotation
Watch for Reactions:
- β’Mild: Rash around mouth, mild hives
- β’Severe: Widespread hives, vomiting, breathing issues
- β’If severe: Call 911 immediately
- β’If mild: Stop food, call your healthcare provider
High Risk Babies:
If severe eczema or egg allergy, talk to healthcare provider about peanut introduction
