2Comfort Measures (While Awaiting Care)

  • β€’Warm compress on the outside of the ear (never inside).
  • β€’Maintain hydration; offer feeds more frequently.
  • β€’Use medications only as directed by your healthcare provider.

3When to call your healthcare provider

  • β€’Fever in infants under 3 months, or persistent fever in older babies.
  • β€’Severe pain, swelling behind the ear, or redness spreading.
  • β€’Ear drainage, new rash, or symptoms lasting beyond 48–72 hours.
